The Irondequoit Public Library is seeking applicants for the unpaid volunteer position of LIBRARY TRUSTEE of the Irondequoit Public Library to fill an unexpired term.

Board of Trustees Job Description and Expectations
Purpose: Library trustees are committed to ensuring that the library provides the best possible service to the community.

Major Responsibilities
• Create and develop the mission of the library
• Select, hire and regularly evaluate a qualified library director
• Secure adequate funding for the library’s service program
• Exercise fiduciary responsibility for the use of public and private funds
• Adopt policies and rules regarding library governance and use
• Regularly plan and evaluate the library’s service program
• Maintain a facility that meets the library’s and community’s needs
• Promote the library in the local community and in society in general
• Conduct the business of the library in an open and ethical manner in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and with respect for the institution, staff and public.

Length of Term: This position is to fill an unexpired term through December 31, 2019.

Meetings and Time Commitment
• The board of directors meets monthly on the third Wednesday of every month, 7:00 PM, at the library. All regular meetings are open to the public and follow the regulations of the NYS Open Meetings Law.
• Committees of the board are ad hoc and meet on an as needed basis.

Expectations of Board Members
• Act in good faith and exercise diligence and care over library matters
• Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis
• Be alert to community concerns of library service and programs
• Help communicate and promote the library to the community.
