Teen Maker Club

Excelsior Free-Tuition Information Session with College Assistance Plus
When: Wednesday, January 24, 2018 7:00 PM

Do you qualify for free tuition? The new Excelsior Scholarship will provide free tuition to thousands of students in New York State. Will you be able to take advantage of this opportunity? Learn more about this recent initiative and how it may impact your college decision. Other topics to include the college search, scholarships, and financing college costs.


A Concert by HochStrings Adult Chamber Orchestra
When: Monday, January 29, 2018 7:00 PM
Where: Irondequoit Public Library at Lake Ontario/Densmore Creek/Irondequoit Bay Meeting Room (#113 + #114 + #115)

HochStrings in the Hochstein School’s adult chamber orchestra. HochStrings is founded and directed by Pia Liptak and is entering its 5th season in 2017-18. The members are experienced students from the Rochester area who form an ensemble of about 10-12 violin, viola and cello players. The orchestra performs three times annually at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance and also enjoys playing concerts in the community. Concert venues have included the Churchville-Chili Community Music Festival and the Seneca Zoo Park. The group has also collaborated with French Road elementary School where the orchestra performed a collaborative, inter-generational concert with the school’s chamber orchestra of children. 


Books and Brownies Group

All teens are welcome to join our new Teen Book Discussion. We will be discussing the Young Adult edition of Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. There will be food!

Teen Escape Room

The clock is ticking–you and your teammates only have a few minutes to find the clues, solve the puzzles, and unlock the box before it’s too late! Join us each month for a different scenario—whether it’s finding the antidote to a deadly zombie virus or cracking the enemy’s code to end World War II!

A Valentine's Day Performance by the Rochester Oasis Tappers
When: Wednesday, February 14, 2018 3:00 PM
Where: Irondequoit Public Library at Lake Ontario/Densmore Creek/Irondequoit Bay Meeting Room (#113 + #114 + #115)

Join us for a Valentine-themed performance by the Rochester Oasis Tappers, a group of senior dancers between the ages of 50 and 99 years young!  They are affiliated with the national Oasis Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of mature adults, and creating opportunities for personal growth and community service. The Oasis Tappers meet for practice sessions twice a week and perform for numerous senior facilities and organizations year-round. 


Speed Dating with a Book

What book will you fall in love with next? Spend a few minutes with each book and have some Valentine’s candy. Come find your next favorite book!

A Siamsa: An Irish Evening of Entertainment

The Monroe County Irish organization would like you to enjoy a variety of authentic Irish entertainment. Known in Ireland as a Siamsa (Shee-am-sah), it includes traditional cultural music, dancing, and historical stories. Please join us in commemorating the city of Rochester’s and county of Monroe’s declaration of Irish American Heritage Month. Sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

St. Patrick's Day Performance by the Boland School of Irish Dance
When: Friday, March 16, 2018 4:00 PM
Where: Irondequoit Public Library at Lake Ontario/Densmore Creek/Irondequoit Bay Meeting Room (#113 + #114 + #115)

Join us on St. Patrick’s Day for a performance by dancers from the Boland School of Irish Dance. The School promotes Irish culture through teaching Irish dances and music and its students are well known throughout Rochester.


Best of the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival with Author James Kennedy
When: Thursday, March 22, 2018 7:00 PM
Where: Irondequoit Public Library at Densmore Creek/Irondequoit Bay Meeting Room (#114 + #115)

All ages are welcome; best suited for ages 8 and up. The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest in which young filmmakers create movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery-winning books in about 90 seconds. James Kennedy, author of The Order of Odd-Fish and founder and curator of the 90-Second Newbery, will give a presentation about the festival as well as show some outstanding entries. This will be an energetic and highly entertaining presentation – don’t miss out! No registration necessary.

Wegmans Info Session for Teens

All teens and their parents are welcome to attend this informational presentation on working for Wegmans. We will discuss the benefits for students and future opportunities.  We also discuss application and interview tips, followed by a question and answer session.
