Children will learn concepts and practice skills through hands on exploration and play such as pre-math and science, sensory experience, construction, creative problem solving, critical thinking and more. We provide experiences with blocks and loose parts, process oriented art, sensory and science, dramatic play and language and literacy.

“Drama Tom” aka Tom Lake is the drama teacher at Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts where he integrates acting skills with classroom curriculum for children in grades K-5.

A Concert by HochStrings Adult Chamber Orchestra
When: Monday, January 29, 2018 7:00 PM
Where: Irondequoit Public Library at Lake Ontario/Densmore Creek/Irondequoit Bay Meeting Room (#113 + #114 + #115)

HochStrings in the Hochstein School’s adult chamber orchestra. HochStrings is founded and directed by Pia Liptak and is entering its 5th season in 2017-18. The members are experienced students from the Rochester area who form an ensemble of about 10-12 violin, viola and cello players. The orchestra performs three times annually at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance and also enjoys playing concerts in the community. Concert venues have included the Churchville-Chili Community Music Festival and the Seneca Zoo Park. The group has also collaborated with French Road elementary School where the orchestra performed a collaborative, inter-generational concert with the school’s chamber orchestra of children.

ASL Storytime

Recommended for Ages 1-5. Come and join in a half hour of fun in American Sign Language (ASL). Children will have opportunities to learn ASL rhymes and rhythms as well as engage in a story presented in sign language. A voice interpreter will be provided for family members who may be learning ASL. No registration required.

A Valentine's Day Performance by the Rochester Oasis Tappers

Join us for a Valentine-themed performance by the Rochester Oasis Tappers, a group of senior dancers between the ages of 50 and 99 years young!  They are affiliated with the national Oasis Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of mature adults, and creating opportunities for personal growth and community service. The Oasis Tappers meet for practice sessions twice a week and perform for numerous senior facilities and organizations year-round.

Family Yoga

In this session, families will learn simple but powerful yoga postures to balance and stabilize the body. No prior experience with yoga is necessary. This program is for kids (ages 7 – 12) and their adult caregivers. Yoga teachers will demonstrate the moves through a video, with an in-person instructor available to help with postures as needed. Participants should bring a towel or yoga mat. Please register.
