The Odenbach Shipyard in World War II with Marie Poinan of the Greece Historical Society

John Odenbach built a huge indoor shipyard in an apple orchard during World War II. The plant was only in business for five years but it employed thousands of people. Odenbach’s patented way of bending steel and rivetless hulls revolutionized the shipbuilding industry. Photographs in the presentation are from the Odenbach family and have not been seen before.

Presenter Marie Poinan is a member of the Greece Historical Society where she prepares exhibits, programs, and literature. Her primary interest is to preserve local history and she is the volunteer archivist for Charlotte High School. 


Monthly Talking Circle

In response to the two well-attended presentations “Talking Circles and the Art of Listening” offered in October 2016 and February 2017, we are offering monthly talking circles on the third Wednesday. The topic for our first circle will be about sharing our stories and sharing our values.

You can simply come and enjoy the circle experience, and we also offer support for people who want to practice their circle facilitation skills. If you have a topic idea, or if you have any questions about circles, please email facilitator Judith Lardner at judith.lardner@gmail.com

Childhood Memories of Life in 1940's Rochester

Irondequoit resident Donald Messina will share memories of Rochester during World War 2. This program will be a lecture and open discussion. Attendees are welcome to share their thoughts on discussion topics, including rationing, the role of the media, sharing the war with neighbors and family, using horses and automobiles, and attending school. 


Screening of Shoulders to Stand On Documentary

Learn the history of the LGBT Community in Rochester from the people who made that history. Executive Producer Evelyn Bailey and Director Kevin Indovino have produced a documentary that “entertains as it enlightens” viewers about Rochester’s rich LGBT history – a story that has not been told in other media. Estate Planning: What to Consider When Making Your Plan with Jeffrey Douglass from the Principal Financial Group

An Introduction to Tatting by Midge’s Tatters
