2024 Library Board Members

Rachel Snyder

President

Rachel is an avid reader, of everything from books to the back of potato chip bags. Her excitement at supporting the library in this role is comparable to a kid in a candy store, or in her case, a library.

Rachel has lived in Irondequoit for four years; and is a seasoned non-profit professional. Having 10+ years of board experience, she’s always advocated for progressive policies, putting people first.

To support such a tremendous organization in a volunteer capacity means the world to her, and she looks forward to helping the library move forward into its next chapter.

Phil Harriman

Vice President

Phil Harriman has been a resident of Irondequoit since 2004. He is a life-long lover of libraries and an avid reader. His first job was as a library clerk at the University of Rochester, the foundation for a career in information technology and training in business and higher education. To further his career, he earned a Masters of Information and Library Science at Syracuse University in 2005. Phil believes that libraries are important to democracy, especially at this time.

Erin Dougherty

Secretary

Erin moved to Rochester to attend Nazareth College for graduate school in 2013, and she has been an Irondequoit resident since 2019. Erin earned her Master’s degree in Art Therapy in 2015, and she uses the knowledge and skills she learned during her time at Naz for her current job as a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Specialist at Heritage Christian Services.

Erin’s driving passion is supporting people with disabilities as they learn, grow, and achieve their goals.

Erin is also a lifelong reader and lover of learning, and she is thrilled to be a member of the Irondequoit Library community as these are values that they share. During her time working in the ID/DD field and also being a member of the LGBT community, Erin recognizes the access to resources that libraries provide vital to society. She is honored to be a member of the Irondequoit Library board and for the opportunity to serve her community.

Betty Brewer-Johnson

Treasurer

Betty has lived in Irondequoit for over twenty years, where she has raised her children. She completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration at Roberts Wesleyan College and continues to pursue higher education. Betty is also a Certified Medical Biller with the American Medical Billing Association and a Certified Medical Coder with the American Academy of Professional Coders. As an active member of two Toastmasters clubs: Frederick Douglass and The Communicators, she has mentored several members through public speaking.

Currently, Betty is employed with the Arc of Monroe in the Finance Department. The Arc of Monroe is an invaluable resource to the community that provides various programs and services to help individuals with intellectual and or developmental disabilities achieve their personal best.

For many years, while Betty’s children were growing up, they would often visit the Irondequoit Public Library to gather resources to complete school assignments, learn new skills, relax and read magazines. The library has continued to be a resource that brings a sense of wonderment and adventure right to our fingertips. She looks forward to serving her community in this new capacity as a Trustee-At-Large and the opportunities to expand its potential further.

Michael Huntone

Trustee-At-Large

Susan Kramarsky

Trustee-At-Large

I moved to Irondequoit in 2012 after spending 25 years in Brighton. I am married with two grown daughters. Professionally I spent 13 years as the elected Town Clerk in the Town of Brighton after a career in not for profit administration. My very first “adult” job was in my college library – and began a lifelong love of all that libraries have to offer. Libraries are the key to education – they provide for lifelong learning opportunities – now open for business around the clock and around the world.

Laura Schiefer

Trustee-At-Large

Laura grew up in the Finger Lakes, and has lived and worked in many places across upstate NY. She moved to Irondequoit in 2021 with her family. Laura has worked in the library field for 20 years, and is currently the Executive Director at the Rochester Regional Library Council, a non-profit library system serving the needs of all types of libraries. She serves as a Council and Legislative Committee Member for the New York Library Association, and prior to moving to Irondequoit, served on the Board of the Henrietta Public Library.

Laura’s passion for libraries and reading began early in life. Laura began reading at the age of four, and her earliest and fondest memories are of her parents reading to her. Laura believes that libraries are a community anchor – an organization that welcomes everyone, lifts people up, and makes the community a better place.

Sarah Yanello

Trustee-At-Large

Sarah has a great love of storytelling, especially through books and movies and she has a passion for encouraging and cultivating this love in young folks. This is one reason she is thrilled to be involved with the library as a trustee.

Sarah has lived in Irondequoit for 17 years and teaches English at Eastridge High School. She has two children who attend East Irondequoit Central Schools and is a proud Lancer. This is her first board experience and she is honored to advocate for and represent her community as a member of the Community Engagement Committee. Her desire to highlight acceptance and honest communication is what drives her to remain an active member of the Irondequoit community.

In Memory of

Karyl Mammano

Dr. Karyl Mammano passed away on September 26, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Mammano was a valued member of our Board, was deeply committed to serving our Town and Library, and was a dear friend to all of us. Her knowledge, talents, passion, generosity of spirit, sense of humor, and friendship will be sorely missed and will continue to help guide us.

In Memory of

Stephanie Squicciarini

Stephanie Squicciarini passed away suddenly on March 1st, 2018. She was the Board President for many years and was a driving force in getting the new library built. In addition to being on the board, she was the Teen Services Librarian at Fairport Public library. Another one of her crowning achievements was founding the very successful Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival. She will be sorely missed, but her influence and impact to her community will live on
